Crothian

First Post
In the foot and Fist martial arts the table has great throw as a prerequiste and the describtion of the martial art has Deflect Arrows instead. Does anyone know which it should be?

Are you referring to Table 6-2? That table is not a list of prerequisities; it's a list of feats that are part of the style. However, you don't need to master all of them to gain the benefits of style mastery (only the ones listed in the text).

Foot and Fist isn't the only style that has additional feats and skills listed as part of the style, but not required to gain the benefit of mastery. I think they all do, but haven't double-checked.

The lists are almost the same but there is usually one feat that is in the prerequites that is not on the table, and one feat on the table that is not in the prerequites. So, you're saying I should be following the list of feats in the prerequites and not the table?

That's my take on it. The table doesn't specifically say "prerequisites," and the text is pretty explicit. I'm sure this has come up before, but I don't know if any official clarification has ever been made.

Yeah, it's been clarified all over the WotC OA boards. Try doing a search there, it might even be in the FAQ. The table 6-2 is a suggestion of feats and skills that match stylisticlly. The Prerequisites in the text are the feats and skills you need to gain the mechanical Benefits. Table 6-2 is merely a role-playing aid.

Here's James response:

Both are correct.

It's important to recognize that the table lists feats that are commonly used by practitioners of a martial arts style, while the text lists feats that are a prerequisite for mastery with the style. They're conveying two different pieces of information, and both are correct.

You're not the first to be confused about it, however.

Thanks for writing,

James
