OA PrC Updated for 3.5 in Complete Warrior

I noticed that in the Complete Warrior, some OA PrCs were updated for 3.5, among them are the Bear Warrior and Kensai, if I remember correctly.

Do you think that other classes from OA PrC will be updated in upcoming books? I really like the OA PrCs, but when compared with many of the 3.0 PrC, you can see a marked difference in power (I don't think it's too powerful in my opinion, just when compared with "standard" PrCs). Maybe it's because those PrCs were meant for an Oriental Campaign and not meant for a standard DnD one?

Some PrCs that would be nice to see updated for 3.5 would be the Monk PrCs, Blade Dancer, Witch Hunter, etc.

Um, if the samurai and kensai are any indication, I would just as well have them leave them alone. They are better off as is; I am not impressed with the new versions.

I do not believe that the Kensai was in OA. I think the only reprints are the Bear Warrior and the Tattoo Monk PrCs. I guess you could also consider the Samurai a reprint but that class is so far removed from the OA Samurai that it would be best to consider it a separate class IMO.

Has not this always been the case? All the way back to the 1E Oriental ?Adventures I have felt that there was definite power creep and you could not as a rule crossover standard DnD with OA.

Does anyone know if more "Complete" books are in the works?

There was a kensai in OA, but judging by what I've heard from people around here, it's not the same kensai as in CW. The OA kensai was pretty much a straight conversion of the Weapon Master from Sword & Fist.

Yeah, the kensai from CW is nothing at all like the weapon master (kensai) from Sword & Fist. They have two feat requirements that are the same and that's it. They really should have changed the name to avoid confusion. It's a very poorly done PrC. It pretty much looks like a filler they stuck in after pulling an all-nighter to give an even number of PrC's. The bear warrior and tatooed monk are the only two PrC's reprinted from OA. There are, however, a number of the OA feats reprinted in CW.

Sorry I missed it. Weapon Master (kensei); the e (kensei not kensai) and the fact that it is almost exactly the same as the S&F Weapon Master threw me off. The CW Kensai has far more in common with the OA Samurai then it does with the OA Weapon Master (kensei) or than CW Samurai and OA Samurai have in common IMO.

It is worth noting that the Sidebar on "World-specific Prestige Classes" (p.86 if you have the book) mentions that most of the PrCs have been deliberately made more "generic" to be better suited to worlds other than where they originated -- the OA Bear Warrior and Tattooed Monk are singled out as examples of this, while the Thayan Knight is cited as an example of one of the exceptions.

Whether that is good or bad in the long run is an open question, but I would expect that if there is a flavor conflict, that is part of the reason.
