OA qn: maho-tsukai spell list

hong

WotC's bitch
The maho-tsukai has a nifty "convert spells" ability that lets them convert levels in a previous spellcaster class to maho-tsukai levels, for the purpose of determining the no. of spells known and spells per day.

How does this affect their spell list, and in particular, magic items? Suppose I have a 6th level sorc/1st level MT. As a 6th level sorc, I can cast haste. This spell is not on my MT list. Can I still use scrolls and wands of haste?

How about spells that I can't cast (didn't take as a sorc)? Suppose I find a scroll of fireball, which isn't a spell I took as a sorc. Can I use that? Or teleport?

As long as you have at least one level in sorceror you can use spell completion items on the sorceror list but you only use your sorceror level for level checks.

Right, so a smart MT would keep at least one level unconverted to keep the benefit of the sorc spell list (the MT looks uber on first glance, but they have a really limited spell list -- like, _really_ limited). That makes sense.

Maho-tsukai can learn spells from either their old spell list or the maho-tsukai spell list. (OA p238, spell conversion.)
So, them not having Haste, etc, on the maho list isn't a problem, as they keep access to their Sorceror spells.

Oh, that's even better. Thanks, Geoff! :D
