Oblivion

Nikosandros

Golden Procrastinator
Has anyone seen it?

I went to the theater today and I enjoyed it. The script is weak and there are several inconsistencies, but overall it was an interesting story. Visually very appealing and professionally directed. Cruise gives a strong performance, while the two female leads are somewhat weaker.

I'm keeping this first post spoiler free, but if someone else wishes to discuss the details of the story, I'm all for it. :)

There have been some comments about it, but mostly in the context of the new Iron Man movie.

I found it to be very uneven. The visuals were very nice. The story was quite stupid in several regards. Some of the character development was good, but some of it was weak. (Ladies, how well do you think they managed the story of the first introduced female lead? There was lots of room for great character development there, but it didn't seem to be well developed.) The basic idea of the main character seemed decent enough, but I don't think there was a good payoff from it.

Ultimately, the problem that I have is placing a personal, love story along side the near annihilation of the human race. The mesh seems badly off.

Thx!

I agree that the story had several stupid parts and the whole premise, if scrutinized closely, doesn't really add up. However, I felt that the juxtaposition of the love story and the post-apocalyptic setting actually worked.

I saw it just now, and I liked it. Tom Cruise SciFi movies are always interesting, even if they aren't amazing.

For the most part, I thought the plot worked
if you assumed the machine was a Berserker a la Fred Saberhagen.
