[OCT] What are you playing

Well I figure it's time since we're half way through the month and I just finished Final Fnatasy Tactics and felt like sharing.

So what are you playing?

I just started to play Shenmue on my Sega Dreamcast.

Yes, I'm behind the times. But the Dreamcast, though dead, is still a very cool system.

Well, I reinstalled Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and beat it again. Man that game is fun. When I have the spare change, I'll be picking up Jedi Academy--the demo is lots of fun, if only for the customization of your character and his/her lightsaber. Plus, they have more force powers than Jedi Outcast.

I also reinstalled Civ III last night...and was up until the wee hours of the morning before I realized what happened. Everyone and their mother declared war on me, just because I tried to plant spies in all their countries. Personally, I think the computer was overreacting, but I've got Modern Armor and they have cavalry, so it's been fun anyways. The French and Rome will be taking a stroll through extinction sometime later today.

Finally, I got Planescape: Torment for real cheap, because of all the rave reviews. At this point, the graphics are quite dated, but I'm going to try to stick with it regardless.

I really like Shenmue 1&2. If you like the first game make sure to play the second, whether you get the European version for DC or the Xbox version. After that make sure to bug Sega to continue the series.

You would actually let that stop you from playing a game?

Heya:

ToEE got me to dust off PoR2. This time through, I made a 2 player party and haven't gotten any NPCs at all. My characters are a Clr15/Bbn7/Rog7 and a Sor16/Bbn12. I'm extremely close to the end, so each character is probably only going to get one level more. Still, much better than with a full party. ;) The cleric is wielding the Dreadsword Daemonicus and is a wrecking machine, of course, and the sorceror is cheeseballing his way casting Confusion everywhere. Hehe.

I decided to splurge on a new video card last night (Radeon 9800 w/ 128mb ram), mostly for Max Payne 2 which I picked up today, along with UFO:Aftermath. I've read the latter isn't really much of an XCom successor, but the graphics look nice, and as long as I can pause and give orders while paused, I'll be happy.

Lastly, Robert Heinlein once asked (probably through Lazarus Long), "Would you rather be a live jackal or a dead lion?" The answer is: a live lion.

Would you rather have a game with great gameplay but lousy graphics or lousy gameplay but great graphics? Great both. Of course, I think the graphics in Planescape:Tormet hold up remarkably well, so what do I know?

Take care,
Dreeble

NHL 2004, which is a big step up from the last 3 years' 'upgrades' to the game.

Picked up a copy of Freedom Force, which I bought when it came out, but it went missing. Playing MnM has made me want to play this again.

Soul Calibur 2 is lot of fun playing with buddies.

Jedi Academy. Man, I love this game! Strangely, I find the single-saber style more appealing and worthwhile than either the double-bladed saber or the two-weapon style. The latter two are too darn complicated! Also, the ability to switch to the Darkside and fight regular Jedi is kind of cool.

No, but it makes me more likely to play the other good games I'm playing. I'm sure I'll give it a complete run through at some point. Civ III and iTunes for Windows (no, it's not a game) are taking up my time at the moment. Oh, and at some point I need to finish both Warcraft III and Splinter Cell (both are awesome).
