Gorhmenghast? Turgid, yet dull; slow; boring; hints at depths of meaning, but entrapped in viscous prose. Ultimately not very interesting.

I initially got a copy because I read the Alan Lee's Castles book and got interested in the Idea of Setting all within the walls of one castle. It turned out to be a disappointment so far. (Almost....shall I say it...Soap Opera-ish in a lot of ways)
I have the whole series of books in one volume so It is also a daunting read ( that is what I meant by the war and peace reference.
