Of Sound Mind for a pair of 13th level characters

Crothian

First Post
I'm going to try something a little different. Usually I take the PCs through adventuyres that will challenge them in a fight, but this time I'm going to place them against a tough mystery, but more then easy fights. I really like the module and have wanted to run it for a while, but I never had the chance. So, I'm just going to run it for the PCs. Now a low level module for 13th level PCs should be a breexze, but these PCs aren't as strong as therir level suggests. First, there's only two of them. One is a Mageblade and the other is a Akashic; both classes from Arcana Unearthed. They also have less magic then their level suggest they should.

The module seems like a fun mystery, which my players should enjoy. THe encounters should be fiun and a bit creepy. I'm running it because the dragon fits well into the goings on of the campaign. I downloaded all the dreams from Fiuery Dragons Website, and I'm so happy they have them there. It's so nice to be able to just print them out.

SPOILERS

The big conversion challenge happens if they have access to flight magic. If they do, much of the adventure can get tossed out the window, which is something of a shame.

It should be relatively easy to upgrade the various beasties, though. There's no reason that the adventure shouldn't be fun with higher level folks.

They do have limited flight abilities, but I think I can have them not use them. By stressing the importance of the mines through the different dreams they get, infoi from the PCs, and also with the journal entry; I believe they should explore it dispite the fly abilities they have.

Well, you don't necessarily have to forbid them to play intelligently; a withering and intelligent assault from the folks up on the mountain might be enough to discourage a frontal asault.

At your local gaming store or at most on line retailers. Of Sound Mind is written by our very own Piratecat in case you didn't know.

What if you weave in a second mystery the solution of which is hidden down somewhere in the mines? With a clue to be found (SPOILER)up on the mountain (/SPOILER)where the solution for the main mystery lies.

This leaves the PCs free to choose their path of action while giving them an incentive to explore the remaining goodness of the module anyway.

Just a thought. :)
