In one campaign we have a cleric of the Raven Queen and a paladin of Moradin. Another is set in the Forgotten Realms. There's a paladin who doesn't quite have PC status in another campaign, but I have to admit, I don't even know what deity he worships.
Yeah. Kind of the vibe was I getting from everyone always talking about "my cleric of the raven queen" and "my paladin of bahamut" on other threads.
For the Raven Queen, I wonder if it's her flavor (mm.. chicken), the fact that she doesn't have a "real name," the implied story tie to orcus (he wants to overthrow her and take her place as god of death or something), her portfolio (i control the fate of your life ...), or her divinity feat (kill someone to heal yourself!)....
Oddly enough, in the 10+ years of gaming in my group, there was only one character having been noted as worshiping anything. That character was a cleric, and the god's placeholder name was "Standard." As in "Standard Deity." That's how much our players cared about deities.
At the onset of my campaign, I made each character select a parton deity. The party is 2 elves and 4 dragonborn. They all selected deities along racial lines, so I have 2 followers of Corellon and 4 followers of Bahamut.
In my 4e Eberron group I have a tiefling warlock who follows the Raven Queen, and a dragonborn cleric who follows the Blood of Vol. The other two PCs don't have a particular religion or god.
