Official Magical Schools

I really like this book: Amazon.com: College of Wizardry (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons/AD&D Accessory) (9780786907175): Bruce R. Cordell: Books

It breaks down Mathghamhna in a great amount of detail. It is actually a high schoo" and university combined. I don't know if you want to go this route, but they even describe the Apprentices (level 0) daily schedule with random chore tables (and punishments). Later on you graduate to Initiate (level 1-6) and has the duties that entails and then finally you become a Guild Wizard at 7th level.

There is a lot of detailed information, all written for AD&D 2nd ed. But I feel it is very done. It is one of my favorite books that I try to use for my wizard PCs which I play or DM.
This would be incredible. I'll tr yo track down a copy.
The Arcane Order is an ongoing presence in a few of our campaigns, and my Factotum character served as an ajunct professor for a semester teaching "Aberration Handling" (Students interview the Spectator Beholderkin who serves in the minor magical artifacts vault, the Otyugh that serves in the kitchens as a garbage disposal at the bottom of a shoot, dissect a Lurking Strangler and each student gets to Raise a Rust Monster). I've made up various details about the University, but I've kept it vague. Having a book with details would be an excellent resource!

Redhurst, Academy of Magic. It was written for third edition D&D under the OGL. The PDF for a while (and might still be) was offered for free on line. It is one of the best mage academy source books ever published no matter what gaming system.

Haven't heard of it, but like what I'm seeing so far. I'll see if I can track down a PDF that's legally free.

One neat thing they did with the print version is have students write things in the margins so it felt more like a used book one might find at the school instead of just a gaming book. It is also one of the few gaming books that is an enjoyable read. It was a small print run from a small company that I think died soon after its release so it never really got the widespread appreciation it deserved.

Here are a few Free Redhurst Bits | Forbeck.com from the author. Note that you can grab a printed copy of Redhurst from half.com or Noble Knight for around $12. It truly is a Hogwarts for D&D...

The 2E College of Wizardry is more old-school though and also features a small adventure iirc. So if you want to further flesh out your Mage of the Arcane Order you should definately check this out. The 3.0 Tome & Blood also had details on the Arcane ORder, though I'm not sure if they were cmopletely reprinted in Complete Arcane or not. Also the 2E adventure Lost Shrine of Bundushatur is an adventure for an all apprentice group iirc.

There's a City Quarters Arcane Quarter d20 product and there's also the Mor Aldenn City of Mages mini campaign setting line for Pathfinder RPG by Headless Hydra Games. Here's the bundle on RPGNow. The idea of the Mor Aldenn mini setting is explained on this site

Or you could check out the old 2E City of Greyhawk boxed set for 2 magical guilds/universities.

And last not least how about stealing a bit from the awesome Sigil Prep School campaign...

Some interesting links about the College of Wizardry aka Arcane Order aka Mathgamnha:
Libram of Magic This site is an in-game treatise on the nature of magic penned by Japheth Arcane, leader of the Order.
Bruce Cordell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article mentions that the wizard Strom Wakeman and the organization known as the Arcane Order are mentioned in the Illithiad and the accompanying 3 adventures and even some planescape products.

I will very much enjoy reading Libram of Magic.
I'll see what other sources mention the University.
I have Tome & Blood, however only recently was shown that the University and Mage of the Arcane Order was in it.
