Official non-raging barbarian variants?

Simple enough question--does anyone know of any barbarian variants that don't have rage? Dragon or dungeon, splatbooks, whatever. I'm looking to make a barbarian/psion, and given that it prohibits spellcasting etc., and that this character will be avoiding melee where possible, normal barbarian rage isn't very useful.

IMO, rage is the defining trait of a D&D barbarian. If it ain't ragin', it ain't a barbarian. If you want someone savvy out in the wild, mix in some ranger levels instead. Or just don't rage...

Mainly, it's because the favored class of the race I'm using (a DM homebrew "half-ooze") is Barbarian, and I most definitely do not want to take an XP hit once my psion levels outpace my barbarian levels, especially since I'll be starting out weaker than the other characters in the first place.

A barbarian, that is going to avoid melee? :p

Why don't you just make it a pure psion, if you already start out weaker anything else will just hurt your psionic progression, and just use the character description and stats (i.e. good Con would seem reasonable for a barbarian, tho I don't really know about half-ooze barbarians  ) to make the character appropriately barbarianish without being a fighter.

Try the feat in BOED that lets you think clearly while raging. I think it's called "Righteous Wrath".

That might let you cast (or go all 'Scanners' or whatever psions do) while raging...

Thanks, I'll make sure to take a look for it.

As for why Barbarian--well, I've got 23 Con and 7 Dex after racial adjustments, so I'll definitely be wanting armor proficiency, and a fighter level will end up giving me an XP hit later on. Plus, that fast movement will probably be mighty handy, plus the extra-high HP will be useful for things like Empathic Transfer.

A barbarian who prefers crafty hunting over pure ferocity might choose to exchange his rage ability for certain ranger class features.
Gain: favoured enemy, archery combat style, imp. archery combat style, archery mastery.
Lose: Rage, greater rage, indomitable will, tireless rage, mighty rage.
