I own an insane number of different systems, but currently I'm only willing to run d20 games - for the sake of my gamers. Half of my group doesn't even want to change campaigns now or then...

Personally, I'd be willing to run nearly anything, really. Right now I'd love to play Deadlands.

But more than anything, I'd like to take a break from GMing... don't see that happening anytime soon...

Because different people like different things?

Does that answer the question?

I mean really, substitute this for just about any other preference-laden product or endeavor. "If Lord of the Rings is such an awesome movie, why doesn't everyone love it?" "If Gone With the Wind is such an awesome book, why doesn't everyone love it?", etc.

Isn't that exactly what Treebore said?

I like D&D but from the stand point of game design, there are better games out there. Thkose companies go unheards of because they aren't WoTC. You can't find them in your game store because you can't find them in your game store.

3.5 is the best version of this particular game I've ever played but it's not the be all end all of games. The fact that so many people play it is not IMO a sign of it's superiority as a game. It's a sign of a lack of options.

D20 is a fine system. It's relatively uncomplicated but there are times when it isn so bogged down that it's horribly frustration. Some games with d20 versions were better off without them.

I like D&D but I support other games not published or owned by WoTC too.

Shadowrun actually has 3 editions, and will soon be giving birth to a fourth. :D

I have to say I am glad that there are so many of us that like playing other systems. The "tone" of so many posters on so many threads gave me the impression that this wasn't the case.

The last thing I ever want to see in the gaming community, that is so prevelant in the community at large, is a close minded attitude. Especially with RPG's in general. So I am glad that is not the case, even with 3E only fans. Their responses indicate it is a lack of time to check out other systems that keep them from playing them.

So all seems to be well and good, just the difficulties of communicating through an electronic forum. Wheww!!

"I'll play any RPG, as long as it is fun."

So when I'm annoyed that my DM is being difficult to get any fun (or worldbuilding or anything except an ambush every session out of), it's time to give up on D&D and go play World of Warcraft instead. :p

I play 3E (3.5 to be precise). I prefer it. I think it's better than all the other versions. I would resist playing another version but could probably be convinced if it sounded like a fun campaign. In particular I'd probably outright refuse to play 2E though. I would also probably outright refuse to play another fantasy RPG. Spies, western, Scifi, modern RPG's of any stripe? Sure. No problem. I'm familiar with a few and know nothing about a hell of a lot more - but D&D I mess only with the best. As it were.

Is 3e the be-all end-all? Not hardly. It has a few flaws, a few areas that I won't mind seeing revised one day in the far FAR distant future. But for now it's about as close to perfect as makes no real difference.

It's like coffee. You work at adding a little of this and that to it and just patiently wait to get it just perfect - just the right temperature so it won't burn your tongue but is still HOT, the right amount of cream and sugar and you want to SAVOR it for a while. You know eventually as you get to the bottom of the cup it'll get too cool, and if a waitress is a little TOO fast on the refill you'll lose the balance of bitter bean juice, dairy and sugar. Then you have to start over again getting it the way YOU want it even if it DOES keep the contents of your cup hot that way.
