Allegedly, getting a silver membership awards me the ability to change my membership status to silver, on my own...yet, there is nothing I can do or click on that lets me change that myself...so, a) change it for me...or b) give me instructions [other than "you can change it yourself"] of how to do it.

You can change it yourself.

I had the same issue as you upgrading from copper to silver. If I recall correctly, it's under Settings->Group Memberships. Unfortunately I can't confirm that, since my subscription lapsed while I was unemployed and haven't gotten stable enough to renew it.
