Okay, what's with the binding?

A simple question here:

I've seen several references to different bindings (perfect, staple, etc.), and was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the different types of binding are. Also, if you could tell me the pros/cons of each I would appreciate it.

I think perfect bound binding is the traditional way of binding a book spine with a rubberized glue. Staple binding uses either metal staples or holds pages together using string which is weaved through the pages.
