OD&D(1974) boxed set. :D

Supplement I Greyhawk
Supplement II Blackmoor
Supplement III Eldritch Wizardry
Supplement IV God, Demigods & Heroes

Outdoor Survival from Avalon Hill

Chainmail by Perrin & Gygax

The Strategic Review (but i don't use the Bard :p )

and some times i slip Swords & Spells in there...

Barring Outdoor Survival and Swords & Spells, these are the only "old D&D books" that I have every owned ;) (well, my set is the 1976 edition, but pretty close)

Diaglo, do you use Yellow Cover or Silver Cover Chainmail? :)

Another of the players in my current game got the old FR dwarf book to flesh out his dwarven attitudes and get name ideas for his dwarven cleric fighter.

The old Planescape junk, since I'm currently running a game in the setting. Expect a story hour at some point in the future. The old Birthright junk is also very inspiring material, as is the old Dark Sun junk. And I still regularly plumb the depths of old Forgotten Realms material while trying to dredge up information on this town or that thorp. Realmslore never gets old.

I've updated a decent chunk of Players Option: Spells & Magic to 3e, as well as the 2e Tome of Magic.

I agree that the 1ed DMG is still very useful- all kinds of good charts and tables hiding out in there!

Gotta ditto this. I haven't quite found a whole lot of use for the Saving throw tables, but the pursuit rules, the parasitic infestation table (!), the town encounter table, the sections on adventuring in land, etc. and the stuff about gems, herbs, the additonal artifacts are neat, and the information on potion miscibility all seem useful in some form or another.

I am going to have to find a way to make those potion miscibility tables useful. Wild magic, it's mmm, mmm good.

i got into the game from the Wargaming side....but i only ever had the silver cover with the black binding and lizardman.

Here are some pre-3e books that I can still find uses for...

Volo's Guide to...: These books may be nothing but fluff, but when the characters in my FR party visit one of the cities in them, I can quickly open them up to find out information about the various inns, taverns, shops, etc.

Complete Book of Dwarves: This book contains rules for randomly constructing a dwarven stronghold that can still be used to this day.

Faiths and Avatars: Along with Powers and Pantheons and Demihuman Deities, these three books contain loads of useful info about the Forgotten Realms deities.

Planescape Campaign Setting: Everything you ever wanted to know about planar travel and more.

Using the OD&D Companion's set with Fields O' Blood for kingdom and army creation. IMO most pre-1E modules are good and I 'steal' from them regularly. I respect the direction & ideas of 3.X more than 2E, and I will probably never go to 2E for anything since there is enough on the market to pull from for goodness.

All my Planescape stuff -- using it at the moment for an epic adventure set in Sigil and the Abyss.

Some of my 1e/2e FR stuff for info on the countries, cities etc.

GH The Adventure Begins for City of Greyhawk details.

Cheers
