im late to the whole dungeon tiles game, but im really enjoying the sets ive purchased thus far. i have all 3 dungeon tiles master sets (dungeons, city, wilderness) but ive seen the other sets available that are i guess out of print.

i was looking at Harrowing Halls and Caves of Carnage...are these still worth it for me to buy, or should i wait till they come out with a respective "master set" for these? thoughts?

Master sets are those that Wizards will keep in print because they are more basic and/or versatile. WotC said they would continue to put out themed sets that would go out of print, like the Desert of Athas or Caverns of Icewind Dale sets.

You can never have enough tiles. :)

Even if they come out with a box set later, you'll still have the extra tiles to work with. With tiles, duplicates can be a good thing. Can't tell you how many times I wish I'd bought multiples of some of the early releases.

I personally doubt you'd see box sets devoted to the more specific specialty tiles anyway. Although that's just a guess based on absolutely nothing....other than just the fact that they boxed them up and that likely costs a lot more.

I'd recommend the following:

Harrowing Halls - This set will mesh with your City Master Set and give you more interiors to work with.

Sinister Woods - This set will mesh with your Wilderness Master Set and give you trees and more varied terrain.

Caves of Carnage/Caverns of the Underdark - If possible, I recommend you get 1 of each of these to give you enough caves to work with.

Streets of Shadow - If you can find this for a reasonable price, snag a copy. It'll add much more city stuff to your City Master Set (which has a huge amount of harbor/canal stuff).

And do think about getting doubles of good sets. I like having two of sinister woods and am thinking of getting a three to do a full fortress. Even two is not really enough.

Harrowing halls is a beautiful set, with great interiors. Good for any kind of inhabited building or ships.

Dire tombs is old, but is a beautiful yellowish floor color, which makes it quite distinctive. Having different floor colors can make the battlefield easier to figure out. I usually use Dire Tombs for elevated areas. Lots of pillars there, too.

Arcane Towers is also good if you want to have round rooms.

Deserts of Athas is good for deserts, beaches and water (go figure).

Tehre are tons of good sets out there, jsut do not get Ruins of the Wild as that was wholly reprinted in the Master:Wildernes box.

thanks for the tips guys. i just bought Harrowing Halls, Caves of Carnage and two copies of Arcane Towers as i read you really need 2 sets to make a full tower. i have been debating on getting Sinister Woods since i already have 2 sets of the Wilderness Master Set, but ive seen a few tiles that i really liked with that set. specifically they have more tiles dedicated to a forest clearing of sorts with a path out.

i dont really understand though why WotC would want to put stuff out of print after only a year (or less). give it some time! geez.

WOTC is a collectible company at heart. Always have been.

so based on what ive read on various forums, the appropriate response here would be to bash WotC about how they take all my money and blah blah blah......

and then go buy 2 sets each of their dungeon tiles ;). and since i'm a good steward of my word here, i'm going to go buy lost caverns of the underdark and sinister woods.
:D
