Old Judge's Guild via DTRG

francisca

I got dice older than you.
Has anyone bought any of the old, scanned JG stuff from DTRPG? How are the scans? I'm eyeballing a few of them.

I'm eying them too :)

Bear in mind that the old Judge's Guild stuff is DRM protected (unlike Necromancer Games' new stuff, for whatever reason). However, Clark or Bill said somewhere (I believe the Q&A thread in the Publisher's forum) that there are plans to switch them to watermarking. I haven't seen a timetable on it however.

Since I'm waiting for the PDFs to be released as watermarked versions, I'll only be able to comment on the quality of the scans then. ;)

I'm looking forward to when they are watermarked pdfs as well. There are a bunch I'm eyeing though. In print I've got their gods book and thought it was a good 1e alt deities and demigods sourcebook, although it only had about as much detail per deity.

I'm aware. Believe me. I'm aware. But nothing wrong with the asking early and often approach, eh?

I bought most of them the day they went up on DTRPG.

Unlike most of the scanned image books on DTRPG, they do -NOT- have an OCR layer behind the scanned image, so you cannot cut and paste from them or anything, they are purely image scans of the originals.

That said, the scans are good, and I was particularly impressed with the scan of the map of Tegel Manor* - scanned poster maps are often very... wonky. This came out quite well.

* - once it was added to the product - the original version available for download didn't have the map at all.

I bought the Ready Ref Sheets and couldn't be happier. The scans are clear as day and complete (something that can't universally be said of the ROGnow/SVGames scans of old TSR products).

The scans are the best Clark could get ahold of. Most are pretty good, some are excellent. They should be converted to watermarked .pdfs sometime in the future, I have no idea where they would be in line.

As simple scans, these are not going to have the same level of functionality as the .pdfs created directly from the electronic files used for printing.

I happen to love the JG stuff so I can't give an unbiased opinion. Even with 3/3.5 edition this material is very useful, whether or not you'll feel the same is a different story. I'd suggest Tegel Manor and maybe Dark Tower and/or Treasure Vaults of Lindoran as good ones to try out.

JG stuff in print format occupies about 1 foot of space on my RPG bookshelf, so my mind is made up about the quality of the material. :D
