I'd just like to mention here that Tome of Horrors is very cool. Finally managed to find a copy, and I am very pleased in all regards. Even some of the dumbest Monster Manual II monsters (and there were some really dumb ones) came out very cool!

Big ol' THUMBS UP to the ToH crew!

Some have criticized that some of the monster that were left out of MM1 & MM2, well, weren't left out without a reason, if you know what I mean? Whats your opinion on that?

(Even if the convertions were flawless, you can't help if the monsters were so-and-so to begin with ;))

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question ... but I was very impressed at the ToH ability to make some less-than-brilliant ideas still seem intriguing and playable.

Everybody has different ideas about what constitutes a cool monster; WotC's focus at the moment seems to be on freaky three-limbed faceless things, Outsiders in general, and giant spiders from hell ... which is fine for those who like such things, but not so interesting for me.

Stuff goes in cycles, too ... for a while in 2e, everything was about mind flayers and beholders; again, cool for those who liked it, less than interesting for me. I like lycanthropes, tauric creatures, humanoids, and intelligent undead.

Well, usually that reason was "they didn't get around to it yet" or "it was already in an official 3e product."

I only object to some things that were put in that should not have been. AFAIAC, the Giant *cough*space*cough* Hamster could have been left to rot. :)
