Old paperbacks? What do you do with them?

Got a handful of used bookstores in my area, and they get what I ditch. What they might not want usually goes in a box in front of one of the stores which acts as a freebie pile. There are a number of people in my apartment building that dump their old books on a table in the laundry room. I used to take some to the library but found that so many were getting stolen from there that I felt less motivated to go that route.

I'm thinking about putting together a geocache of old used paperbacks and hiding it on a mountain or somewhere in the middle of the desert. I'll call it "The World's Least Accessible Lending Library".

I keep most of them :), but I will have to pair down soon. My mom wants me to go through and get rid of most of what she's gotten me over the years. Some will get donated to our libraries (or school libraries), especially the popular ones, so there are more of them in the system (Hudson Valley & Buffalo systems). Some will go to used book stores to get other books, especially the occationally found OOP stuff that I've been looking for forever. Lastly, some of it might go on Ebay. I think I have most of the Star Trek books (TOS, DS9, TNG), a lot of Star Wars, most of the James Bond books, and a few other series. I'll have to go through to deside how to group stuff, but I think Ebay might be best for that stuff.
Also, don't forget friends, family, co-workers, etc. Even if they're used, books make a great gift, even if it's a just "hey, I was going through some old books & I thought you'd like this one" kinda deal.

My Darksun and Eberron books I take notes of character/location descriptions and keep them for future use.

Everything else I either horde or trade with other readers for something new (to me anyway)

In all honesty, I re-read mine. Nearly every book that I own (and that's a lot) I have read at least twice. I just can't bring myself to sell or donate my books so I alleviate the guilt by not letting them go to waste. The libraries in this area are awful! I have a better selection in my study.
