For those who are running SF games, you might want to check out this article: Old Planet
I have read news articles that indicate the star may have formed some 12.7 billion years ago.
So, here are a few ideas.
Such an old star may have a planet with the ruins of a very ancient civilization, one that may have left the system.
Mining: When stars age, they produce heavier elements, such as iron. There may be gold and other valuable materials in such an old system. (I seem to recall a Poul Anderson novel that had this theme in its plot.)
Artifact: Some device is still functioning in that system. Its recovery becomes of vital interest. (To one of our ancestors from 5,000 years ago, a microwave oven would seem to be a wonderful -- and inexplicable device.)
