Oldschool is back, DnD 1st/2nd editions DC Area!

OldschoolDnD

First Post
I am a twenty plus year Oldschool Dungeons & Dragons player of the 1st and 2nd editions. My longstanding group broke, but I would like to get another game going with people whom are familar and enjoy the older versions. I usually play within the Dragonlance gaming world, but sometimes can do a standard DnD game. What I am looking for is fun loving laid back movie catchphrase quoting players who are not rule lawyers but play with creativity and common sense. Innovation of a character or in gameplay is always appreciated. Basically looking for storytellers out there like me. preferible ages starting at 21 on up.

Do you host? I assume you mean literally downtown DC? It would be a bit of a drive from Ashburn but I might be able to do it.

I played 2nd Ed. a lot back in highschool. Mostly as a thief, using various specialty classes from the old thieves' handbook. I DM'd a few times but am not looking for that at all, right now. I am 29 now and haven't played in about 12 years.

I try to find groups to play online or in the NOVA area a couple times a year but have not been successful yet. There seems to be some stores around (one in Chantilly, Game Parlor) that provide hosting. I might check that out as well. Not sure how it works or if/how they charge.

Anyway... If you do get a game going I'd be interested. You said you had a group going in the past - if you had found that group on these boards I would not mind hearing about that gaming experience, even if you do not get a new group started.

Im thinking the game will be done in the Fairfax Area not DC.

My longstanding group was around since the early 80s, but over times we had added players when others dropped away through sites like here, some were good some were short timers, some were awesome but had to move. As a fellow oldschool player you know our editions is a bit harder to find players for.

I play as I said primary in the dragonlance gaming universe, are you familar? it may or or may not be what we play in but its probably one of the most structured game when it comes to clerical/magic user powers into different clergy's/orders.

I had gotten your email so I will elaborate more after the 16th.

I have not played in years so I actually do not know how hard it is to find a group :) I would assume it is pretty tough no matter what.

Dragonlance - no, unfortunately, never played in that world. Our games consisted of the standard world. We started out with just a player and DM manual and expanded from there based on our DM's imagination.

Not sure how different DL is from the standard rules. If this turns into something I can do the research though.

Btw - Got your PM - thanks for the response.

don't sweat the Dragonlance differences, it doesn't really change the gaming mechanics, the only differences is that there are specifics classes concerning Wizards and Clerics, different gods offer different sets of powers, three orders of wizards, but beyond this, there isn't much difference between Dragonlance and standard ad&d just storyline stuff. oh and there are no halflings, only kenders.

Oldschool 1st/2nd edition Dragonlance AD&D game starting to form in Fairfax VA, anyone out there Oldschool and miss the old gaming style is welcome to come sit in. Give me a reply or a msg if there are any questions.

Already in a weekly and the wife would have a cornary if I were to join another.

I know there were a few players looking for 2E game around not to long ago on here for NoVa.
