First Post
Am in the process of setting up an Omega World campaign for my weekly group and I've run into a bit of a hitch. Hopefully you guys can help.
First off, I admit to not being well versed in D&D3E, and maybe the fault lies there, but I am confused by the way damage is "stepped up" in Omega World.
For example, Hissers have the Superior Mutation on their Sonic Blast attack and this 'doubles'(?) their damage to 2d4+2?! I don't get it. Can someone explain? How many times would you have to multiply Sonic Blast to get say 3d6 for damage?
Any and all help would be appreciated! To show that appreciation, here's a new monster from my campaign setting:
The Crywolf!
CryWolf
Large Animal
Hit Dice: 6d8+18 (45 hp)
Initiative: +2 (Dex)
Speed: 50 ft.
AC: 14 (-1 size, +2 Dex, +3 natural)
Attacks: Bite +10 melee
Damage: Bite 1d8+10
Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 10 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: Trip, Sound Mimicry
Special Qualities: Scent
Saves: Fort +8, Ref +7, Will +6
Abilities: Str 25, Dex 15, Con 17,
Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 10
Skills: Hide +5, Listen +6, Move Silently +5, Spot +6, Wilderness Lore +1*
Feats: Superior Mutation (Sound Mimicry)
Climate/Terrain: Any forest, hill, mountains, plains, and underground
Organization: Solitary or pack (5-8)
Challenge Rating: 3?
Treasure: None
Alignment: Always hungry
Advancement: 7-18 HD (Large)
Trip (Ex): A crywolf that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the crywolf.
Skills: A crywolf receives a +1 racial bonus to Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks and a +2 racial bonus to Hide checks. *It also receives a +4 racial bonus to Wilderness Lore checks when tracking by scent.
Sound Mimicry: Once per round, when hit by a sonic attack, the crywolf can copy that attack and send the copy back toward the original source.
Crywolves are the mutated desendants of the North American Timber Wolf. Crywolves are much larger than their progenitors and have six legs. Crywolves hunt as their ancestors did, picking off the stragglers, the old and the weak. In times of lean hunting crywolves have been known to use their Sound Mimicry abilities to lure single individuals away from parties or villages by imitating the crys of a child or a woman in distress.
(Honestly this is just a Dire Wolf with a mutation and a feat, but I love that about Omega World - Instant Monsters! Please note that whatever parts of this monster are OGL do not constitute a challenge to WotC rights.
Yikes!)
