One Bad Egg: "Hatching the Best Stuff for D&D"

The Half-Dead look really interesting to me. Can anyone who's purchased the PDF comment on if they evoke (or could be made to work as) the Forsaken from World of WarCraft? I love that angle on undead.

Caveat: I am not a WoW player.

From doing a bit of Google research, it seems that yes, you could certainly use the half-dead to simulate forsaken. They do not have the "cannibalize" ability (racial feat, perhaps?) and they seem to be a bit more alive than the forsaken (at least from what I was able to read), but that might be a matter of flavor at the table. I'd say go for it.

That's encouraging. I actually haven't played WoW for a couple years myself (burnt out on repetitive quests), but I do still enjoy the world lore and adore the idea of an undead PC race, especially as executed with the flavor of the Forsaken. It's something I wish WotC would support officially, but I suppose if there's a lot of "4e is like WoW" complaining now...

For $2, and with your insight, I guess I can't really go too wrong, can I? Thanks!

I'll have to pick it up tomorrow.

Not getting the Forsaken-vibe at all, and I had 250+ days played in WoW when I quit.

@OBE: It's immediate reaction, not response, since you are using the GSL (for the two feat powers)

Like I said, not being a WoW player, I saw an undead-like race, with some of the same abilities (and I think that Cannibalize ability from the forsaken could totally be a racial feat) that could more or less fit in. As a player of the game, you'd have a much better understanding of the race as it plays, but as far as window shopping, I think it could work out.

Even if the flavor as presented is not totally Forsaken vibe, if the mechanics can work, that's the big thing. So far, my best Forsaken / undead PC race idea was a re-flavoring of warforged, which - as much as I love warforged - doesn't really do it for me.

And really, I'm open to the flavor that OBE is presenting, too - I just really like the idea of an undead PC race, and outside of the Forsaken in the WoW d20 RPG, I haven't seen anything out there. There's nothing stopping me from picturing Tirisfal Glade at the same time I read about the Half-Dead, and from the World Seed philosophy, that kind of mash-up to taste is OBE's goal, too.

I'll take a look for myself later today (found this last night just before bed, and am now at work, alas).
