D&D (2024) One D&D and feats

Yeah, even if I don't generally use feats when I make a character, I suspect I would get pelted with (virtual) garbage if I tried to tell my group that they couldn't use feats.

I'm just relieved to have some clarity on it. Calling them "optional," then putting them in the Player's Handbook, was causing unnecessary confusion and conflict at my table.

But no, I don't believe there will be a "featless" option in the future. From what I've seen here and elsewhere, Feats are incredibly popular with both players and DMs alike.

I dig this solution quite a bit.

It's probably easiest (and probably what they'll be doing) to just make +2 to an ability INTO a feat. Then, if you don't want to play with feats, just take that (or some other simple option).

Not at level one, though. Just take a background feat (or if you don't want to worry about it, take the one that the background you chose gave you, and consider it a background feature.)

if 1st level feats will be this bad of a choice, just offer +1 ASI instead of it.
