One new setting a year?

So, I beg a third time: please, Bruce, Mike, Andy or anyone at WotC that reads this boards: do not, I repeat, do not release a new set of core books each year dedicated specially for a given setting. It's just dumb and needlessly expensive. Just release something like "Complete Ravenloft", with all the information that's specific to that setting and that's it!

You're begging them not to do something they've already decided not to do. :)

I specifically asked Mearls about the 'new core books each year' on D&D Game Day. The PH2, he said, was enormously successful for them and will be the model going forward. They will not be redone PH1s, DMG1s, and MM1s.

Besides, making these books setting-specific makes no business sense. Why sell them only to the setting fans when you can market them to the whole D&D fanbase?

You were going for a setting book? I was going for a themebook, like 2e's Castle Guide.

Perhaps to you, it would be a waste of ink and page. To me, two great themes in one affordable book.

Now that is all nice and jolly, but if I'm not mistaken, this thread is talking about setting books, not themebooks, or isn't it?

Well, if it is a setting book, why use a title that starts with "Heroes of..."?

You know that makes me thing of drop-in rules supplements like Heroes of Battles and Heroes of Horror. Nothing campaign-specific about them. Too bad there won't be any more volumes added to this line of book series.

Oh, please no! No more "Complete" in the titles! Drop the word.

They can call them fighting words if they want. The setting is deceased. You can't breathe life into a corpse. I really don't see much that WotC could do to dress up Greyhawk and impress current gamers with it.

I've got this awful picture of Vecna flouncing around in wig, lipstick and a frilly dress in my brain now. Thanks.
