One player party. A one on one DM to PC game?

Its an interesting point about the uneven levels; I'm sort of in the same situation right now. I'm leaning towards not worrying about it too much, for a couple of reasons; for one, the underlying assumption that everything has to be mechanically perfectly even takes from my suspension of disbelief. I doubt that there would ever be such a large discrepancy between character levels that it really showed too much, and if it did, I'm confident I could design so that all players remain engaged and entertained.

Levels are auto correcting, which also helps, and in my game, I'd definitely provide opportunities for other players to solo if there was a desire for it!

Recently, however, one of these games turned out to be so much fun that in addition to regularly running for my group, a PC and I have agreed to create an on going campaign involving just their character and a few under powered NPCs. (They don't play a main role in the game but are supporting 'party members' or reoccurring characters who don't steal any thunder from the player.)

This game that I am referring to NOW is fortunately not tied in with another campaign involving a larger party. I don't worry about other pcs having similar opportunities to gain xp with this particular campaign but when I do have breakaway side quests from a main multi-pc game I always try to incorporate fair xp opportunity for all.

I think I am misreading something.

BoC, there are a few published scenarios that sound like exactly what you're looking for:

Fighting Fantasy - Forest of Doom and Fighting Fantasy - Trial of Champions are both 3.5-compatible adventures written for a single PC (though the former is for a 3rd-level character, and the latter is for a 9th-level one), with a few variant rules (primarily the Luck ability score) to help even things out. They're quite good, and I'd recommend them.

If you don't mind adapting materials, the four old one-on-one adventures for Second Edition (HHQ1-4, the Fighter's Challenge, Wizard's Challenge, Thief's Challenge, and Cleric's Challenge) are available for pay-for-download on RPGNow also.
