One Time Character: Level 4

Fallen Seraph

First Post
I shall be going to a party in a weeks time, and there is going to be a one-time dungeon crawl taking place, with level 4 characters.

As such I want to make a more unusual kind of character. I was thinking of some kind of aberration-hunter/stalker. Who uses psionics to power up her weaponry/make her physical actions like running better.

I am not sure whether I wish to be front-line melee or mid-range archer (it depends on what other people play) so ideas for either would be great.

I am playing a Human, Custom Half-Farspawn template. So essentially has the human bonus feat, Blink 3/day and thats it with no LA (since it is a one-time LA just doesn't matter).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

I think Ranger 2/Psychic Warrior 2 would fit the bill. You'll have enough bonus feats and skills to pull off what you're looking for. Focus more on psionic focus feats from PsyWar than powers, because they tend not to have enough power points to use their powers very often. Best bang for pp buck tends to be 1st level non-augmenting powers.

Thanks, for feats I am thinking of taking then...

Weapon Focus: Composite Longbow
Point Black Shot
Psionic Shot
Practised Manifester

and one other one I haven't decided yet.

You get 1 more feat too. Could take Precise Shot. Or Psionic Talent, so as to manifest Offensive Prescience more often.

1st-level feat
Human bonus feat
Track ranger bonus feat
2nd-level ranger feat (rapid shot)
3rd-level feat
1st-level psychic warrior bonus feat
2nd-level psychic warrior bonus feat

One thing I am still not sure with, with Psionic characters, on the sheet there is a:

POWER SAVE __ dc mod

Wouldn't a DC mod for powers be different for each power, so what would you put there?

Try a Psychic Rogue. It gives you enhancing powers, has plenty of skill points and access to the stealth/observation skills, and with Blink, you can make a +2d6 sneak attack every round.

Alternately, take the Lurk from Complete Psionic.

Here are the feats I'd probably grab for a one-shot with those classes:
1st: Point Blank Shot
Human: Precise Shot
Ranger 1: Track
Ranger 2: Rapid Shot
3rd: Knowledge Devotion
PsyWar 1: Psionic Shot
PsyWar 2: Psionic Meditation

If you crank up Knowledge (dungeoneering) and take the Collector of Stories skill trick, your Knowledge Devotion should give you a pretty hefty insight bonus to attack and damage. That will also obviate the need to take the Offensive Prescience or Precognition powers. A single rank in the other monster-identifying skills also goes a long way...

You'll end up with 2 powers known and most likely 3 or 4 power points, but you should never spend your last power point so you can always use your Psionic Shot. I'd grab Bite of the Wolf and Force Screen, since they synergize well with using a bow.

Wisdom modifier, for a Psychic Warrior. In 3.5 psionics, each psionic class has one prime ability score for manifesting; Wisdom for Psychic Warriors. You just add that modifier to the power's level and the base DC for the saving throw.

Thanks for all the help, gives me alot of different options to try out. I am now tempted to make this a regular character instead of just the in-timer... Perhaps could be a NPC in my next DM-campaign :P

With placing the skill in specifically Dungeonering does that mean any monster found in a dungeon would be susceptible?

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) gets you aberrations and oozes. If you can spare a single rank (even cross-class) for Arcana, Nature, and Planes, you'd get to make trained checks against everything except undead and humanoids. Trained knowledge checks + Knowledge Devotion = guaranteed bonus to attack & damage.

I'm actually really tempted to play this guy sometime too. :)
