You're pretty full up I see, but I'll throw my name in for a game anyway. I'm UK as well, so if time can suit you then odds are it'll suit me.

Character'll probably be some sort of good aligned warlock. You know, the rather cliched tale where he petitions the (a) devil to save his wifes soul only to be :):):):)ed over and doomed. Bound be that infernal pact his ultimate end goal will be something about amassing power/might enchantments to break the ties. And while hes at it, do some good deeds to spit in the (that) devils face. Could be fun. Maybe something succubus related... hmm, better not.

email is lotsoffire@hotmail.co.uk if you can manage another.

Saitir,

How many players do you have presently and how many do you feel comfortable running?

We dont want to overload you but we also dont want ot lead anyone on either.

Can you give us a status check, please.

Jim

Ok, players and statuses as I understand them right now (as ever the early stuff tends to be a little chaotic, so feel free to correct me here):

Contacted via e-mail
Ftr - Defender (Fighter)
kingchddg90 - Defender (Fighter)
mistersolve - Striker (Sorcerer or Avenger)
Joe - Unknown

Via forum only
Christopher Robin - Leader (Runepriest) (have to say one of the highlights from phb3 I thought)
bobbyblues - Striker (rogue)
Fusioncell - Striker (warlock)

Noting the striker heavy offers in there, I have to say I've found the charismatic rogue to be an excellent controller substitute.

Fusioncell, I've no problem with cliches (they're a great shorthand to start with) so long as things aren't arch and dull afterwards!

As you'll all see we're at 7 right now, and honestly thats too many for a fun game in my opinion. 4 or 5 I find ideal, and 6 is good if the players are tolerant to the inevitable extra time that gets spent giving people RP time and the extra time around in the combat progression.

I'll forward details to the latest guys and then I think we can consider submissions closed for now.

Again, thanks to everyone who contacted me regarding this game.

Character Backstory -Aaerdon Long Shanks

Aerdon is a bastard born to a wench employed in a dirty, mean hole of a tavern on an equally dirt part of the city. Raised amid squalor, lawlessness, and violence, Aerdon knew nothing but fear and loneliness as only an unwanted gutter child can know. As he grew older, so did his body. By ten, he was considered a freak being as large as a grown man and as strong. Quickly seduced into the life of the street gangs, Aaerdon was used as an enforcer, quickly gaining a reputation for his willingness to fight at the drop of a hat. By the time he was fifteen, he was already wanted for his part in numerous robberies, muggings, and murders.

On a day like any other, the now towering young man was sitting in a gutter slum bar when a half dozen soldiers stormed in and beat Aaerdon to near death. Awakening in a jail cell, the guard informed him of his tremendous luck. Since his involvement in the robbery and death of a judge's brother was common knowledge, Aaerdon was getting the privilege of being the first criminal labeled an "incorrigible". This made him eligible for the judge's revolutionary new punishment. The new punishment was designed to demonstrate the merciless fate that awaited their eventual capture. Something that may last for days, weeks, or even months before claiming the life of the criminal while allowing the public to watch.

Every day, Aaerdon was marched under guard from his cell to the city gates and taken to a nearby abandoned stone quarry. He was tetherd by a long iron chain and given a hammer and chisel. His task was to quarry enough stone to pay his way back to the safety of his cell every afternoon before sunset. It was understood that no cut stone blocks meant no reentry into the cruel safety of the city.

A single guard was placed nearby to watch Aaerdon. This soldier was not there to help him if danger came, only to report back if it finished off the criminal. Day after day, the already towering youth toiled; shattering boulders and forming the remains into usable blocks. While he was not mason, his tremendous strength allowed him to work quickly and to always fill his quota. Every day he laboured in every sort of weather.. Everyday he grew in strength and coordination and sheer toughness. Every day his watchers marveled at his ability to endure and even thrive.

A day came when there were two watchers. Aerdon was taking a break in the sweltering heat of the midday sun, his hammer carelessly tossed aside while he lay on the jagged and burning stone. Aerdon froze at the sound of a soft scuff of footsteps on stone. A huge desert cat had come to fill its growling belly with this lone creature so conveniently unable to run. Aaerdon glanced at the unmoving watchers, grimly acknowledging that no help was forthcoming from them.

back story part II

Slowly climbing to his feet, Aaerdon looked for a weapon as the great cat began to circle closer. The hammer was too far. No loose rock of any size was close. In desperation, hi grasps the iron chain in his large calloused hands. He pulls. With the desperation born of the eternal will to live, he pulls. The links twist then break, leaving a fifteen foot length of heavy iron chain in his hands. With a grim smile, he turns to face the great beast...

Hours later, he is brought to the one of the barracks belonging to soldiers of the city. He is brought before an officer with hard eyes and and even harder voice. This was the second watcher. Aaerdon is given a choice, enlist and learn to be a soldier or be executed. His strength and ability to endure has embarrassed the judge who sentenced him. His killing of the desert lion has put fear into those who must guard him. This cannot go on. This is a second chance. A chance to become a real man and give up the life of ignorance and ready violence. The choice is made. The shackles removed. Aaerdon is now a soldier.

Over the next few years, he is transformed into a man with skill and, more importantly, with principles. His sheer power and ability to wield a chain become a barracks legend. He prospers, He grows content with his new life. But men such as he are not destined to be content and fate intervenes. The judge who tried and sentenced him has prospered as well. He bode his time to revenge himself on the oaf who made a joke of his judgment.

Aaerdon id offered and encouraged to accept a promotion to junior officer. A scratch unit is formed for his command. They are sent on a patrol outside the city. When the patrol is ambushed by brigands a butchered, Aaerdon and the survivors are cashiered in disgrace. They are tossed like the day's refuse into the streets. No money, no thanks, and no hope.

Aaerdon's reputation brigs offers of employment very quickly. He will offer his strength and skill to those who can help him become independent. He is leery of being in a position to be betrayed again, but craves having comrades and a purpose. He will offer his loyalty to those who earn it this time, not to someone he is ordered to obey. His abilities are great and his strength matched only by the depths of his fear of being in charge...or being alone.

---> Well, that's my character's background. There should be enough hooks to bring me into the group. See you all soon <----

Character Backstory... somewhat

(Uh well I'm new to this so I'll leave parts for the DM to play with should he wish it. Here goes nothing)

Emrick the Skydweller

A mysterious (half elf/man) who got his nickname from constantly having his mind in the clouds, always thinking about the past or future and never the present. The living who know him would not speak of it and the dead wish they had not. He does not take sides anymore...and does whatever remains in his interests. A dark past shrouds the man as if he was conceived by the blackness of night. ( Don't know if that makes sense but it sounds awesome lol. Could use some help fleshing it out a lot and whatnot.)
