Online games: OpenRPG or WebRPG?

Belegbeth

First Post
I am interested in starting an online campaign with some old friends who are now dispersed over a wide geographic area. Both "Open RPG" and "Web RPG" look like viable ways to do this.

Which is better?

My desiderata:

1. Ease-of-use. How easy is the program to install and manage during the game?
2. Flexibility. How easily can the program be adapted for house rules, special situations, etc.?
3. Simulation. How well does the program simulate "table-top" play?
4. Aesthetics. How nice does the program look while playing the game?

Thanks for any advice on this! :)

My online group goes back and forth between OpenRPG and WebRPG. We switched to Open when Web became a pay-to-play deal, but are gradually moving back to Web now.

I think Open is a little more stable. Web has sounds, which many of the players seem to enjoy. Give them both a try, you have nothing to lose.

I used to use WebRPG, and though I tried to convince my group to use OpenRPG none of them wanted to. Then WebRPG went pay-to-play and we all went OpenRPG. When WebRPG went back to being free, no one in my group wanted to switch back.

I'd recommend trying both. They each have some things they do better than the other, so mostly just try them and use the one you like the most :)
