I'm considering running a campaign across the net for a few of us that used to game together, but distance now makes gaming together impossible.

I know a few people run Yahoo, MSN, etc. to do that, but I want to avoid using messenger programs.

Does anyone know any utilities/software (doesn't matter if it is free or not) out there that helps faciliate this?

I already pay for a high-voice codec Vent server, so voice is covered...I'm looking for some shared app we can use otherwise.

thanks.

Because of a similar post to this some folks talked about Fantasy Grounds. I got it, and found a group from these boards. It is a great experience. I highly recommend it.

I have the possibility of a mac player joining us so FG is definitely out, but I Really like the looks of it.

Other then that, Klooge looks really good...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

As an alternative, there are always MU* (IE: MUSH, MUX, etc). These often already have pre-established, permanent campaign settings but not exclusively so. It's possible on some games (like: OGR MUSH, ogrmush.org:6700) to set up your own miniature games.

Others, like Ennersea (www.ennersea.net/ - ennersea.net:4201) and Dragonlance: Age of Mortals (http://www.dlaom.org), are defined in their own settings but because they are permanent, you and your friends can log in at any time and pursue roleplay as you choose, amongst yourselves and with others. Go so far as to get a DM bit and you should be able to run scenes and material as well.

It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but the permanency and accessability of MU* have been a strongpoint of that style of gaming for a while.
