ONLINE Purchases

Hi!

Seeing that there are quite a few folks in these forums who are far more familiar with acquiring online PDF versions of manuals, I would like to have a take on which Online RPG Retail sites (e.g. drivethru RPG, RPG Now. etc) are secure in terms handling and keeping secure and confidential credit card details and personal information, if PDF versions of manuals are purchased from them.

I was informed by a major RPG retailer in Singapore (one of the few places on the planet that serves as a base for me) that the Dark Legacies manuals have been discontinued from further printing and hence it is doubtful if any can be shipped in by them. Can anyone here shed light on this, if possible.

As far as credit card security, I've never had a problem with either site.

I've purchased from both RPGnow and DriveThruRPG using my credit card and never had a problem.

I prefer RPGnow, but the basis of that is simply that I have an irrational hatred of DRM, and DriveThruRPG is big on DRM.

But as far as safety of credit card purchases, I personally have never had an issue with either of those two. Also, I believe you can use your PayPal account for one or both, if you have one.

You are no more likely to be a victim of credit card fraud online than you are when you hand your card to a waiter at a restaurant. Also, I don't know how the laws are where you live, but in the USA you have all the protection in the world from this kind of thing when using a credit card. Debit cards, unfortunately, offer no such protection.

I'm pretty sure I used Paypal at both those locations. I've never have had a problem, other then regretting a few purchases.

There is still much DRM there, notably many Chaosium products.

Actually, I went and looked. The stuff I want is watermarked now. w00t!

I've used both and never had any problems. I always use my paypal account so it might be different. I have used RPGNow more than DriveThru though.
