OOC Thread for Scotley's Tomb of Horror's 3.5

DeWar, there is NOTHING delicate about ANY part of Scotely! :p

In fact, I'd say that he is one of the most "Rough, tough, kick 'em in the nuts and tear 'em a brand new butt" guys that I've ever met in my entire life.

WHATever! Let me hear you say that after you have experienced Scotley's DMing in a face-to-face game for several hours. :p

Unfortunately Raise Dead ain't gonna get it done. He died via "Rend" and is therefore in pieces, which is a specific no no for a simple raise dead  It was a wicked way to go though, worthy of a little bardly poem.

I sure can't find any provision in the DMG or MM that states this result. I'd appreciate a reference to the rule you are invoking, please.

My guess is that Vertexx69 is referring to the following bit in the Raise dead description--'While the spell closes mortal wounds and repairs lethal damage of most kinds, the body of the creature to be raised must be whole. Otherwise, missing parts are still missing when the creature is brought back to life.'

Some DM's interpret this to mean that having been rended the body is not in one piece and thus not whole. I do not subscribe to that interpretation. The Tomb is deadly enough, without my reading the rules so harshly. All the parts are still here, just no longer firmly attached. Just putting him back together in the parts in the right place with healing skill will be enough to allow the spell to do its work. He is gonna have one hell of a scar though.

*looks to leif* hey! that's not where his arm is supposed to go! the sholder, not the center of the chest!

Ballista, HP48/48, AC 26/29vRanged(FF19/24vR-T15/20vR) F5 R13 W6

As the gargoyles body falls to smoldering bits, the fire lifts from Ballista's eyes. Her bow once again vanishes into her quiver as she approaches the torn warrior. "He was a good kid. I hate to see him end like this, but he died defending us and it was a monumental foe." She can't help but smile a little to herself at her pun ...

gag choke ... monumental foe, stone creature ..., gag gag cough ... that is just plain bad. I loved it!

as she removes his quiver and bag, wraps his body in his cloak and places both halves of him in the very sack he was carrying. "Nobody should be left in a place like this. We take him with us." With song of inspration still echoing in the halls of the tomb she adds to it a mournful song:

With horn and claw
Verse sword and shield
The raining blows did fall

Through singing chant
And raging blood
The fight we answered all

But when the dust
Had settled last
Both beast and warrior
Were no more

Such is the way
That many tales
Do sadly close their doors

- by Ballista, Singing Bow of the Protector
- sung over Harrison Bentz in the Tomb of Horrors

gosh. i almost teared up with that
