I think that was right as of the 1E PH. I mostly remember playing that they could be any alignment except LG, but I don't know when or even if that became the official rule.
 

Little to serious for me. I didn't even bother reading all of it. Normally I look forward to these. Maybe it was just too wordy for me today. I spent four hours in Geomorphology drawing contour maps, two hours designing an adventure, and then four hours having my players destroy my adventure. My mind might be tired of reading at this point.
 


I'm thinking of Ian as probably CN -- rebels often have a chaotic tendency, and the political objective can colour a criminal as more benign than he'd otherwise be. But we haven't seen enough of him to say for sure (unlike some OotS characters about whom so many fans have long been in denial).

But yes, Scott, in 1/e thieves could be any neutral or evil alignment. In another thread I posited an alignment/edition joke that Rich might have been setting up (but I'm sure wasn't), that Haley being Good (Ish!) is a sign of the generation gap, that she's achieved something her father could never aspire to.
