I find this one more depressing than 877. Seeing Durkon like that is just wrong.

But I wonder if this will lead to some kind of character growth for Belkar. He's definitely shocked.
 



Add "anti-" in that statement... I smell a "spaghetti-fantasy" arch forming ending with Belkar dying as he kills Durkon/Malack thus earning his redemption.

It has been a long time since I read it, but wasn't Belkar predicted to return home posthumously and that his return would be a disaster for his people?

Specifically, he was exiled because it was said that if he returned home, bad things would happen.

Later, when the Oracle was asked how/when he would return, he was told post humously.

This, then, would appear to be a twist to make that second one not so good...
