OotS 1003

Bit of metagaming here: I'm presuming OotS isn't about to end with the world being destroyed. So, really, Roy has to win this fight. Somehow.
I'm confident the author has enough artistic integrity that the OOTS losing is well within the realm of possibility. This isn't a Hollywood movie where the studio can demand an audience pleasing ending for their investment.

He's grappling

Doubtful. If it were a grapple Roy should get an AoO and if that hits and deals damage (which it probably would) the grapple fails.

Grappling also shuts off Roy's sword until Roy breaks the grapple. and Durkula should also have enough BAB to go for at least 1 pin this round, which will get him 5 to 20 temp HP and cost Roy 1d4 con and make escaping the grapple a bit harder.

Vampires can only use their energy drain ability once per round. So that would be a maximum of 2 levels (10 temp hp) per round. And note also that temporary hit points don't stack, so that pool of 10 will refresh each round, rather than accumulating.

Not if Durkula has improved grapple.

Energy Drain is one per round, Con Drain is separate, but once per round. I did forget ability drain is 5 temp HP per instance, not 5 per point drained.

But last I remembered, this "Temp HP doesn't stack" was something that never entered the rules, merely being something wotc was FAQing up. Of course those who were tricked into paying for errata via the Rules Compendium may have another reading

Temporary Hit Points
Certain effects give a character temporary hit points. When a character gains temporary hit points, note his current hit point total. When the temporary hit points go away the character’s hit points drop to his current hit point total. If the character’s hit points are below his current hit point total at that time, all the temporary hit points have already been lost and the character’s hit point total does not drop further.

When temporary hit points are lost, they cannot be restored as real hit points can be, even by magic.

He's a Cleric. It's a fair bet.
Durkon was a Cleric, but Durkula is a vampire cleric. Skills remain the same, but feats don't have that stipulation. And since RB has already shown Vampire sentience are not the same as the host's soul, it is doubly likely Durkula could have a different feat selection than Durkon.

From the SRD: "A vampire uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here." It notes that some feats are added, but it doesn't say they can be changed.

Roy's already wildly outmatched. I don't understand why there's a need to interpret the rules to give Durkula even more advantages.
