Huh, I totally though Durkon was suddenly going to bust out something to end this fight. Looking at the last panel, unless something happens, looks like this is the end of the fight for Roy.
So presumably something will happen next issue to save the day.... but then again I thought that was going to happen this issue, so who knows.
Maybe the world will just be destroyed and OotS will end. Like a "Haha, you totally thought this comic was going to go on for another 10 years, didn't you" moment.

I doubt it. Rich says in his piece about the 1000th strip, "I don't expect to get to strip #2000, but two thousand pages drawn seems pretty achievable before we wrap this thing up." So there's still quite a bit of story to be told.
That said, I'm not sure how Roy's going to get out of this one.

It would at least be some closure. IMHO the strip has been at the point of "Get ON WITH IT!" for years and a TWK would be an awesome way for the author to say "I'm
ing done".It was pretty awesome to see proof Durkula truly is Durkon's cross to bear. With his own words he damned his people. Delicious!

Most likly V. It spent a LOT of effort into researching Divination magic when Azure city got Sequestered so it does stand to reason V has a spell to punch through the abjurations the Creed of stone has put up and is about to fly in Disintegrates blazing.

Well, I don't really believe it's likely either, but I still think it would be one of those wtf moments that people would talk about for years.
And seriously, who would actually see that coming? Except for me. Hah.

Belkar is skulking inside the temple and has been since they entered when he forked off from Durkula and Roy.
He is the #1 candidate to jump out of the shadows and do something that changes the situation.
I would in fact expect him to jump out and pronounce that he knew this wasn't the real Durkon. While stabbing.

Belkar got thrown off the cathedral and last we saw was falling into a deep canyon. People were wondering if this was going to be his death that had been foretold a LONG time ago. I would be impressed to see how he goes from falling to his doom to saving Roy's butt. I mean, I suppose it COULD happen, but I think V popping in is a lot more likely. At this moment I think Elan popping in is more likely. Or heck, XYKON randomly charging into the cathedral seems more likely.
Which actually could be awesome. Seriously, who would see that coming? I would presume that even Xykon would be against the world ending, so albeit unlikely it could happen. Who would win in a fight? Vampire Cleric or Lich Wizard? Bwahaha.
