Belkar got thrown off the cathedral and last we saw was falling into a deep canyon. People were wondering if this was going to be his death that had been foretold a LONG time ago. I would be impressed to see how he goes from falling to his doom to saving Roy's butt. I mean, I suppose it COULD happen, but I think V popping in is a lot more likely. At this moment I think Elan popping in is more likely. Or heck, XYKON randomly charging into the cathedral seems more likely.

Which actually could be awesome. Seriously, who would see that coming? I would presume that even Xykon would be against the world ending, so albeit unlikely it could happen. Who would win in a fight? Vampire Cleric or Lich Wizard? Bwahaha.

I stand corrected. apparently I missed #996 where Belkar got taken out, thus disrupting my expectation of him:

I doubt it. Rich says in his piece about the 1000th strip, "I don't expect to get to strip #2000, but two thousand pages drawn seems pretty achievable before we wrap this thing up." So there's still quite a bit of story to be told.

That said, I'm not sure how Roy's going to get out of this one.

Also, Rich has said that the Oracle's prophecy to Elan, that for him at least, the story has a happy ending, was meant to let the readers know that OotS will have a happy ending.

It might not be happy for everyone, but at the end Elan (with his sense of dramatics and storytelling) can say it had a happy ending.

The world getting blown up by the Gods wouldn't be a happy ending. Something's got to stop it, whether it be something changing the tide of battle between Durkula and Roy, or the vote of the Demigods NOT going as Hel planned.

The yellow energy barrier around the chamber means that physically nobody can come in or out of the room, it's why the High Priest that went looking for the demigod priests is standing at the edge of the chamber calling for them, and they aren't there. Belkar probably can't get through a divine energy barrier. Someone else entering the fight would have to do so by teleportation (and as we all know, V can't teleport. . .he does have a one-shot teleportation item, but he'd have to know this is the exact moment he would need to use it, since he didn't intend to use it here.)

Redcloak teleporting in and being grumpy that as the High Priest of the Dark One, he was excluded from the Godsmoot, that could happen maybe.

But I am thinking that Team Redcloak may not even know about godsmoot. If they DO find out about it, I wonder if the monster in the dark might upset the balance somehow instead.
