Roy's blood pressure of 85/60 indicates that he should be in a coma. I guess that's why he seems fine to the undead medical staff.

actually, 85 / 60 is fairly good health, that's average systolic and dyastolic pressure levels. where did you come up with the coma nonsense?
Now, if his bloodpressure was, say, 140/60, that's hypertention, we should worry, and he should consider talking to his health care provider (i.e. cleric) about getting that reduced.

Normal blood pressure for most individuals is 120/80. Wikipedia claims it's between 90 and 135 for systolic, and between 50 and 90 for diastolic, but I have never met a doctor in my life - and I've met quite a few - who would consider 85/60 normal. 85/60 would be hypotension, which is just as unhealthy (in the long run) as hypertension.

EDIT: The cited 145/60 is, indeed, mild hypertension, but the difference between systolic and diastolic is of greater concern. In a way, 145/100 would be far less troubling than 145/60, AFAIK.

Odd, the charts in my medical journal list 90/60 as bening "normal" with lower actually being described as an "optimal" condition. Proximity of the two numbers is a non-issue, 145/100 is, if anything, probably worse than 145/60.

though, what really bothered me was that Roy, the big, strong, athletic fighter, has a heart rate of 60 beats per minute. That's a healthy rate, but people who exercize often should have a lower heart rate (A friend of mine who is a avid cyclist boasts a scant 30 beats / minute resting rate)

here's an handy guide cribbed from the American journal of medicine. that should be good enough.

Proximity of the two numbers (systolic - diastolic) is called "pulse pressure," and it is a pretty big issue.

The medical journal values are obviuously results of recent research. I've been told all my life that 120/80 are the normal values, but I'm quite willing to admit that many things I've been told all my life are false. On the other hand, since the values were decided on by a committee, it could all be a ploy by pharmaceutical companies to sell more hypertension drugs. Who knows? I can tell you that when my blood pressure drops below 110/70, I feel dizzy and light-headed, and the same goes for most people I know.

Usually any patient of mine that has a B/P of less than 90 systolic AND signs and symptoms of an altered mental status due to lack of perfusion of blood to the brain (which usually happens when the B/P drops below 90 systolic) is going to get treated (IV fluids, pressors, positioning). There are some people that run around with Systolic B/Ps of less than 100, but its not usual in the USA.

Well actually, 120/80 is "good" for most people. Lower blood pressure is good as long as you are not suffering any problems because of it (fainting or dizziness). Currently I have a blood pressure of 110/70, which my doctor tells me is "good", and I don't have any problems. My doctore tells me that the lower I can get it while feeling OK, the better (less demand on kidneys and circulatory system).

I once suffered severe dehydration + some kideny issues and my pressured dropped to 70/35  . Fortunately they pumped me with enough fluids (aproximately 3 lts in 5 hrs) to bring me back to normal. Let me tell you , 70/35 feels awful. ;)
