Remember, Nale is the Fighter / Sorcerer / Rogue multiclass... Though i'm wondering how he got that coup-de-gras on the veteran guard... I could have sworn that NPC had more levels.

Nah, probably wasn't a CdG, just a lot of damage (magic weapon, sneak attack, etc) against a relativly lower level opponent. He might be level 3 compared to the rest of the guards being level 1, but that only goes so far.

The guard captain just couldn't take the heat.

Given that he's captured Elan, you'd think he'd have the sense to use Elan's rapier, wear Elan's cloak, and shave off his goatee in that case.
