Oots 447

I think the important thing to remember is that Xykons worst case scenario is that he kills a few paladins and has to regenerate again. Big deal. It only slows him down by a week or two and he's already planning on spending weeks in Azure City. As a lich Xykons about as immortal as it is possible to be in D&D. He doesn't care if he wins or loses, he's just looking to alleviate a few rounds of his eternal boredom.

Of course, Xykon slaughtering the Sapphire Guard to the last is the most likely scenario. There's a reason for that, which Elan could explain very well -- drama demands that it's the PCs who triumph over the BBEG, not a bunch of NPCs.

I think the interesting question is not whether or not this happens, but how he does it.

Why don't evil liches just stick to Yahtzee?!

Are you saying you'd spend your Eternal Existence of EVIL playing Yahtzee?
It least I wouldn't have to worry about PCs pestering me all the time!

Until someone cast the divination asking "Where can I find the least dangerous lich that still provides valid XP?"
