What else does this mean? How can Haley and Belkar have survived in Azure City all these months?
they are near something that can't be scried. like a thing under an umbrella maybe???

It occurs to me at this point that the real question that we need answered is, "What is Xykon doing that he doesn't want anyone to know that he is doing?"

Xykon isn't the sort to Cloister himself somewhere for months without a purpose. What sort of epic spell is he devising or casting? What sort of magic item is he creating?

He's got something going and when we find out what it is, I gaurantee that the PC's aren't going to like it.

More like what is Redcloak planning?

History shows that Xykon's attention span is pretty short-term. So I'd imagine that while Redcloak hits the books, Xykon is keeping himself amused in various yet petty methods.

Funny bit of continuity that Fajitas just noticed.

Everyone remember the Spell Duel to End All Spell Duels...

I saw it when it first ran. I loved it!

As for V's inability to scry, Xykon's little "off the grid" toy is likely the cause. Damn, that thing's tough! I'm just curious how Haley and Belkar never escaped the city in three months - unless Xykon's magic also threw up some kind of force shield.

Probably trying to get his Teevo to work in a non-scrying area.

Everyone remember the Spell Duel to End All Spell Duels, back in comic 456? Okay, now go check out the line thirty strips later as Ray gets into heaven. Poor bastard.

Wow. I noticed that the first time I read that comic. Not that I'm bragging, so much as I'm shocked that you guys missed it. I'm usually the last one to notice the little details and continuity gags.

Try an entire city under a Cloister spell, shielding the entire area from Scrying.

Of course, what I'm wondering is why Durkon and V haven't simply tried Planar Contact to try and reach Roy, instead of just guessing what he'd do...

Technically, he could have used "504 Gateway Timeout" as an even more appropriate response, given the strip number.

Not as iconic as 404 I'll grant you, but still by no means uncommon :)

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a 504.

Besides, the joke would have been lost on a lot more people that way...

Plus, there's a built in frustration with 404. We can all empathize with V for getting a 404. He could have used 201 (Access Denied, IIRC), but I don't think that would provoke a visceral reaction of annoyance either.
