It's a quick and easy way to put a damsel in distress for the rest of the party to save without having to explain further. Lien is a fourth-string character, all that matters is how the main cast saves her, not how she got in trouble in the first place.

She should look on the bright side. She has a name at least!

Also, instead of retreating, she could have done the "you go on. I'll hold them off as long as I can" thing, thus buying her allies time to escape. That works as a paladin thing.

V is a bit obsessive recently, no?

Yeah. Dare I say, he's acting a bit ... guilt-ridden?

Also, s/he doesn't look at all well. Looks like Rich took a zombie head with a palette shift and added V's facial features, and plopped that on V's body.

The mage needs him some rest.

Well, at least the comic avoided the "paladin" = "virgin" stereotype...

(And "Junior Prom" doesn't sound like she was married at the time.)

Obviously chastity isn't one of her Paladin vows! :D

Varsuvius is headed somewhere nasty, methinks. S/he's never really behaved like a good-aligned character (I think V is true neutral), but this strip, s/he was remarkably cold-blooded. That's in addition to the signs everyone else is noticing.
