Oots 572

Oracle sneaky as always I see.

And one more thing, people. Could we try to avoid making multiple threads eveytime a new script gets posted? This is like the 6th or 7th strip this week that's had more than one thread, and it's starting to annoy me.

Post more in OotS strips, so it stays on the first page. Seems like still to few people have community supporter accounts to search for OotS, or the thought just doesn't occur to them...

Maybe what we really need is a script that checks if a new OotS strip is online and immediate creates a thread then. ;)

Or we could just have one massive OOTS thread that just gets bumped when a new strip comes out. That's what most other message boards I know do. If people knew to only post in that thread, they would see that people had already noted the arrival of the new comic.

As it is, we end up having the same "This strip has gone down the crapper/no it hasn't" argument every 2-3 threads with different people making the same points. At least if it were all in one thread, people would see that it's been discussed already.

But then, I couldn't use ENWorld as useful OotS-detector! With a new thread each time, you actually see that there's a new strip. In a single thread, it is extremely hard to see if that's just a bump, discussion, or a new thread. And with the current low number of posts per page, it becomes even worse.

Cheers, LT.

Hahaha! Thinking that people actually read more than the first two posts in a thread, especially a long one... that's funny! :p

By the way, if you notice there's more than one Oots thread for the same strip you can use the little report button to bring it to a moderator's attention and they can merge them for us. (Mods, please correct me if that's not a good use of the report button.)

I think the whole "last breath EVER" thing was a way to stress that Belkar will die and not come back. I mean, if he just said Belkar will die then resurrection is always an option. Death isn't really a big threat at their level (as demonstrated by the fact that the main character has been dead for a very long time and is still an active part of the comic), but knowing you'll die and never come back is a much bigger threat.

Kinda reminds me of how in the current campaign we're playing that the DM said we could spend two action points to auto-stabilize at -9, meaning that we'd pretty much never die if we kept two action points in reserve at all times, so the threat of death wasn't really threatening anymore. Then a shambling mound (I think that's what it was) dragged a character into a river and swam away. Good luck stabilizing underwater in the jaws of a walking compost heap. :-S

Another thing: the thread categories seem to be removed. Prior to the ENWorld 2 launch, I'd filter Humor threads in General to look for the OotS discussions. I haven't seen any of those since the upgrades.

And yeah, I'm about at the point to start requesting thread merges too.

Well, if people consistently use 'tags' as long as you have subscribed to one thread that has the oots tag, just click on that tag name and it shows all the other threads tagged as such.

Anyway, back on topic.
(paraphrased) "Now scurry home ... I have an important client flying over and I don't need a dead mammal messing it up" ;)

Don't you hate it when you go for an important meeting and there is a dead mammal in the room?

Man, I ain't used to some of this new-fangled stuff. Tags? I'm still learning how to use some of the old features of vb code that were commonplace on the old ENWorld.

:w00t: 0hps = dead.

i think Rich is loving OD&D :D

Actually, that has to be 2E, because it's the only edition that explicitly listed a -10 hp rule as Optional. (1E had a -10 hp rule, non-optional, but triggered only if you actually hit 0 hp on the dot. With option listed to lower "trigger spot" down to -3 hp.)

It looks like they're advancing editions over time in the heavens.

Tags are a new way of organizing threads.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the thread and you'll see the tags. Basically, anyone can add a tag to a thread that they think describes it. A tag is any word or phrase you think fits the thread, and I think each user can only add two tags to a thread. If you click on a tag in a thread you'll get a page that shows other threads that have that same tag.
