The only thing more annoying then a lawful character who demands on being the group police is the chaotic character who always just has to backstab everyone in the party and assume they're all liars and cheats.

You have to remember that the Order of the Scribble broke up on very bad terms. Girard most likely cast that spell/trap in the height of his anger over the break up.
