It occurs to me that circumstances are allowing Redcloak to avoid appearing quite as evil as he should have needed to be in this situation.

He already contemplated how he'd have had to slay the polymorphed spy if the Resistance hadn't done so for him, and likewise there's no way he could have allowed the craftsman to live, knowing about the fake.

His opponents have tidied up those loose ends for him.

Yes, circumstances have allowed Red Cloak to avoid killing his own a couple times, but he has appeared sufficiently evil recently: Giant In the Playground Games
