OOTS 886

I wish people would just not post anything instead of saying "filler comic." Really. It's annoying. Especially when it's not a filler.

Great strip. Things are really going bad for the Order in this story. It'll be interesting to see if they can pull the win or if it's going to be a bad failure.

It is nearly two comics of filler for what could have been covered in two panels. What's next, this gate taking five minutes (comics) to blow up once self destruct has been triggered?

How on earth could the same emotional tension be conveyed in two panels? Nope. The pacing was perfect for this one. And pacing is not filler. It's pacing. The story isn't just about what happens next. It's also about getting there.

It's mean because it's along the lines of the oh-so-annoying "it was just a dream" device. At least it only affects the last two strips, if Rich had this going for five or more (especially with the strip's usual delays) it would have been truely irksome.

Precisely. It's the very fact of all that angst and emotional tension and loss and triumph being essentially wasted by having been expended upon a series of events that never occurred which makes the whole thing feel like a mean trick to play.

I'm not greatly upset by it - it was a cool little sequence to see - but it was a let-down.

But Girard was an epic illusionist! It had to be done! And assuming that that little sequence will have no consequences in the story is premature. Dare I say that that would be the real illusion (despite the oximoron)?

I agree.

I'm taking a guess here. V and her familiar finally rejoined the group, but the OOTS saw her as Xykon and his sidekick. Since someone just shouted at Roy in the last panels and that only V understands her familiar, I'm going to bet that they just killed the familiar.
