I don't think its bad that they did it...I just wish they did it in a way that was actually funny

Feh. Rich is great, but sometimes he's hit and miss. That is common with amateur web cartoonists that don't plan out strips weeks in advance like the syndicated newspaper cartoonists do--it's not that they are any less brilliant than, say, Scott Adams; the problem is that web cartoonists are cramming the night before and the morning of to find something funny.

As they told us in the Navy--Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

I think you'll find if you read the FAQs elsewhere on the Giants site that he has a lot of the comic planned out in advance. Whether that translates into actual *strips* rather than just plots, I don't know. In any case, OotS is now a regular in Dungeon so I would imagine he's getting very used to getting stuff in ahead of time. :)

I didn't like this strip (first one in ages) but I fully recognise that it's because I love the Potter books and woe-betide anyone who lampoons them! :)

FWIW, in my opinion, all comic strip writers are extremely hit and miss. Scott Adams very much so for the last five years, even my favourite Berke Breathed (sp?) missed at times. And Bill Watterson as well. And I think a published print cartoonist has all the same problems a web cartoonist has. At least the comic creators I know are all cramming the night before the last possible deadline, to find something funny to write about, be it web or print.

What makes me like a comic strip creator's work is if he consistently delivers more gems than duds, and the duds are at least mildly amusing. So far, OOTS is giving me that.

Cheers!

/M
