Cheers again, kingmundi!

This contest is easily my most anticipated event of 2014. Well, that and the release of Modos RPG, second playtest. But it's a close tie.

And I just can't express how great it is that you post all (most?) of the entries. The RPG world owes you a big one.

Thank you for the kind words. I am really trying to build up a groundswell of support across all groups and all games. We all love an play rpgs, despite the many divisions and debates. I was hoping to get enworld, rpg.net, and therpgsite all behind the contest. As well as the OSR, D&D, GURPS blog community.

Do they no longer put all the winners in one PDF? I looked on the site and all the PDF files are of winners individually, not one file with all of them.

I know they used to because I have a PDF of 2010 and 2011.

Looks to me like the single-pdf has become the Picasa-slideshow. Or somesuch.

Has anyone noticed any trends amongst the winner's circle? Do oblique-angle maps win more often? Do the winners get away with spelling errors? Do hand-drawn maps have a shot at the top?

I've only participated in 2 of these contests in the past, and I've never won. Though the first time, I came very nearly to a win, and was an honorable mention. I was even told that map-wise my entry was a favorite among the judges. The problem was the rules stated that each room required a full description as text on the page, and I had only created room names with minimal additional information - so I didn't completely meet the rules requisite, and ultimately could not be chosen among the winners. My entry was a hand-drawn map finished in color - I was told that my map was the only color map entry that year (2010). Had I followed the rules exactly, I'd probaby had had a winner then.

So while hand-drawn maps are indeed favorites among judges, I don't think there's a type of map that will guarantee a win. It takes following the rules exactly, having an interesting map, and proper details for each room/chamber/area.

Additional Prizes 2014-02-26

Another sponsor has come through. Rogue Genius Games is going to donate the following pdfs as prizes for the winners of the contest.

Monster Menagerie Kingdom of Graves
Mythic Options The Missing Core Feats
The Genius Guide to the Talented Fighter
The Genius Guide to Domain Channeling

The complete prize list from all the sponsors is at

Well I've read the Submission Guide, and I don't see anything about a full description of rooms. Am I missing something, or have the rules changed since 2010?

For the record, I just picked up an optical mouse, so I will be able to contribute some things that fall under the realm of hand-drawn. Better than Microsoft Paint squares and ovals...

I haven't looked at this year's submission guide, things could indeed be different. Good luck on your entry, I might not have the time myself.

One Page Dungeon Contest

Interesting. Are there more contests like this? I know Paizo has RPG Superstar starting up next week.

RPG Superstar is about to finish, not start. I was a judge in the first round this year, back in January.

I just held a D&D Next adventure contest throughout February. That's just finished, too, though.
