Open Content and UA

In any case, there's a lot in the book that you don't see online - designer advice, designer variants, expanded examples, and the "D&D" stuff (Slaad bloodlines, for example). Really, if you like to tinker with your campaign, pick up UA. It's well worth the cash.

I'll second this. The behind the scenes things, variants, etc. that are in the sidebars (and not OGC) are really worthwhile. I really like the sidebar on the fractional saving throws and attack bonuses (showing all the little steps and offering it as an alternative to the existing system). There are a lot of cool discussions about how the variant rules might affect your game and things that are well worth the cost of purchase.

So whats the deal with Unearthed Arcana with referance to open content and SRD? I've been reading about the book to see if it was worth my money, but i keep finding major excerps from it listed on sites. These sites list it as open content. When i check wizards site i find no mention of this, and nothing in their SRD mentioning UA. Could someone clear this up for me?

I suggest buying the book. We (kids and I) own 2 now well worn copies. I've used it in every campaign I've run and managed to pull something from it for several pcs I've played in other people's campaigns.

If you don't want to pay full retail, check your local used book store. I picked up one of ours at our local used bood store.

Thanks,
Rich

For me, the openness is a reason to buy the book, not a reason to not buy it. Having content I like and being open...that earns my money!
