Open Locks Synergy

Does anyone use these synergy bonuses: 5 ranks in Craft Lock gives +2 to Open Locks and 5 ranks in Craft Trap gives a +2 synergy bonus to Disable Device?

In older rules there used to be an interaction between crafting locks or traps and the associated skill or whatever it was called back then. Knowing how to craft locks increased one’s ability to pick locks, and knowing how to craft traps increased one’s ability to find/remove traps.

Seems like it would be a Kosher kinda House Rule to me...
I'm not exactly sure who would use it, I don't see a Rogue dumping Skill points into a Craft Skill like that Just to get a Synergy, but then again, maybe I'm just dense.

I don't believe there is a hard and fast rule for such a thing, but it is up to the DM's discretion (as so many things are). I would have no problem allowing such a synergy bonus in my game.

I could see someone pusing to use this idea in conjunction with building towards one of the 2 new traps related prestige classes in Comp Scoundrel or Dungeonscape.

That said, with such specialization I don't feel it would be particularly abusive.

I figured that 5 skill points in a skill like Craft lock or Craft trap seems to especially make the synergy bonuses balanced but it is always helpful to seek other opinions in case there is something I missed. Thanks for your thoughts.

It's 10 skillpoints for effective feat (nimble fingers). Could take those for my current rogue to increase those skills even more. WLD is quite nasty on traps specially lockpicking is now over the edge (max ranks: 11, +2 lockpicks, +2 feat, +5 stat, +3 from marshal for total of 23) but disable dev is harder.

Could use even more good ideas how to boost open locks/disable device or search. Btw that marshal is just lvl 2 bard something but inspire competence coulda be used if needed.
