Clearly imbalanced to me. I work under the assumption that the feats that give you two points in two specific skills because they're related are strong enough, putting trust in the designers of the core rules. Four points to spend anywhere you want is way, way, way more powerful and, imo, inappropriate.

For the Spycraft setting, the feats which modify skills work a little differently. The power level of this feat there would be different.

However, I do see your concerns with this in a D&D setting. As I asked someone else, if the skill points were restricted to class skills or 2 points in 2 skills, instead of 4 points anywhere, would that be better?

Stick with the four points being distributed however the player sees fit according to all of the rules you posted with the caveat that they are bonus points and not ranks.

As unnamed bonuses, like the feats that currently do stuff like that, or some other type of bonus? Would you allow it to be applied to the same skill more than once?

Actually, I'd almost never burn a feat for this, so it might even be underpowered. [/B]

grrr... You get 7 feats throughout your career, and skill bonuses aren't hard to get... The craft mage in our party makes items like that all the time.

I'm assuming you mean skill points, yes?

I personally think that's fine...a feat which allows a
character to raise maximum ranks allowed (level + 3) isn't fine.

As an unnamed bonus this would stack with things like Awareness so a Human could at first level for example have +6 bonus to Spot, or better yet buy the Feat twice and have a +8 bonus to a skill of your choice.

This is less unbalancing in your opinion? At least with them being skill points that are converted into ranks they could not be better in any skill than the normal maximum. They would just be good in a wider range of skills.
